Beatrix Potter was a lover of nature as much as she was an artist. As a child, her first artistic attempts were realistic portrayals of animals and natural life around her. Her classic watercolors were deeply rooted in years of observation of the natural world. For R. John Wright Dolls, the creation of characters from Potter's diminutive books was also an opportunity to create realistic plant life using the medium of felt. The first attempt in 2001 resulted in the Beatrix Potter "Garden Wheelbarrow"™ shown in the photo above.
In an edition limited to only 500 pieces, the Garden Wheelbarrow is perfect on its own or as an accompaniment to any of the pieces in the R. John Wright Beatrix Potter™ collection. Perfectly scaled to the RJW Peter Rabbit, the Garden Wheelbarrow creates a lovely setting reminiscent of the original Beatrix Potter tales.
The wheelbarrow is authentically designed as a replica of an antique European wheelbarrow. It is custom handcrafted with authentic period joinery out of distressed yellow pine with subtle coloration and measures approximately 15 inches long and 6 inches high.
Inside is a profusion of garden-fresh vegetables made completely of the finest all-wool felt with artistically airbrushed detailing. Vegetables include: radishes, carrots, turnips, and onions with organdy skins. Each piece is individually hallmarked with the RJW brass button and the wheelbarrow itself has the initials RJW burned onto the bottom.
The Garden Wheelbarrow is an officially licensed Beatrix Potter edition and comes enclosed in a deluxe RJW presentation box with the signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
