Shirley Temple (1928-2014) began her film career at the age of three in 1932. Two years later, she achieved international acclaim in Bright Eyes, a feature film designed specifically to showcase her talents. In 1935 she received a special Academy Award for her outstanding contribution to motion pictures. Film hits such as Curly Top and Heidi followed year after year during the mid-to-late 1930s.
Now, the most famous child star of all time has been brought to life by R. John Wright in the medium of molded felt. Faithfully based on vintage images of the beloved star at six years of age, Shirley Temple-Hollywood Star stands 15 inches tall and is fully jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips with the RJW wooden ball & socket jointing system. She has a realistic molded felt torso and limbs and hands with individually-sewn fingers. The molded felt portrait face has been finely modeled in a true likeness with delicate hand painted features, and the golden wig is styled in the trademark curls of the finest imported mohair.
Extensively researched for the utmost in authenticity, Shirley's multi-layer ensemble is an exact replica of that worn to the footprint ceremony at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in 1935. This iconic outfit includes period underwear made of natural cotton fabrics and a dainty dress of pleated Italian organdy. A coat with matching tam is tailored of custom-dyed robin's egg blue all-wool felt fully lined with silk. Details include bound buttonholes and felt covered buttons. To top it off is a gorgeous capelet made of authentic ermine fur! The fur itself comes from Alaska where indigenous native Americans harvest and tan the pelts in a time-honored tradition. The ermine fur is sewn into capelets at the R. John Wright studios and lined with luxurious silk charmeuse - just like the original! On Shirley’s feet are white cotton anklets and hand-cobbled replica tap shoes with custom cast metal taps. In the interests of accuracy and realism, the entire costume is completely removable. No detail has been spared to bring this legendary film personality vividly to life.
