We are pleased to present an exciting limited edition of Santa Claus based on the classic illustrations of Thomas Nast, America's greatest political cartoonist. Nast's famous illustrations first appeared in the pages of Harpers Weekly in 1862 accompanied by The Night Before Christmas poem written by Clement Clarke Moore. Prior to this time, Santa had primarily been based on the European tradtion of an austere Saint Nicholas figure. Nast's drawings followed Moore's description and marked the very first appearance of Santa as we know him today. The illustrations were enormously popular and a great influence when first published and they remain lasting treasures of the American Christmas Spirit. The R. JOHN WRIGHT rendition of Santa Claus is faithfully based on the original Nast images. Standing 14" tall, Santa is fully jointed and constructed of molded felt with hand painted features and a mohair wig and beard. He is "dressed all in fur from his head to his foot" in a fully lined suit and matching cap of custom-dyed mohair plush with alpaca and felt trim. On his feet are hand cobbled leather shoes with brass buckles and in one hand a custom clay pipe. He comes complete with handmade toys and pack ready to spread Christmas joy. Among these custom-designed accesories is a leather bound and illustrated "Mother Goose" book; a handcarved wooden hobby horse; a pewter sword & scabbard; a brass pocket watch with a crystal lens; and an original miniature doll! Thomas Nast's Santa Claus is produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces. He will come enclosed in a deluxe presentation box along with the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
