REBECCA

Rebecca

We are proud to present "Rebecca" - the first in a series of dolls based on the enchanting art of famed British illustrator Kate Greenaway. One of the most influential book illustrators of the 19th century, Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) is widely considered to be among the best illustrators from the Golden Age of children's books. She was honored by the Royal Society of Painters for her outstanding work in watercolours and her lovely illustrations made a lasting impression on both children's literature and the world of fashion.

Rebecca evokes Kate Greenaway's images perfectly. Standing approximately 12" tall, she is fully jointed and made entirely of the finest all-wool felt incorporating a realistic sculptural body and a brand new portrait face with hand painted features. Her lovely hands have individual fingers and she has a wig of the finest imported mohair.

Our heroine is dressed in the trademark Greenaway-style dress tailored of custom-dyed sage green silk with pleats at the hem and a silk sash around the waist. Over her shoulders is a delicate silk gauze fichu and on her head, an exquisite bonnet of natural straw - fully lined in silk and embellished with silk ribbons and tiny handmade felt roses. Rebecca's costume also includes silk stockings, cotton period lace-trimmed undergarments, and hand cobbled leather shoes. As a final finishing touch, she carries a custom printed silk chiffon "designer" scarf with the name "R. John Wright" actually printed into the pattern!

Rebecca was made in a limited edition of 250 pieces exclusively for attendees of the first R. JOHN WRIGHT DOLLS CONVENTION held in Albany, New York, May 27-30, 2009. Each doll came beautifully boxed with the accompanying certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
