PADDINGTON BEAR

Paddington Bearª

On the heels of the extensive Winnie-the-Pooh series, R. John Wright Dolls produced another of Britain's world famous bruins: Paddington Bear created by author Michael Bond.

In 1958, after producing a number of plays and short stories and while working as a BBC television cameraman, A Bear Called Paddington was published. This was the start of Bond's famous series of books, telling tales of a bear from "Darkest Peru", whose Aunt Lucy sends him to England, carrying a jar of marmalade. The Brown family found the bear at Paddington Station, and adopted him, naming the bear after the station. Paddington's adventures have been published in nearly 20 countries, and for the past 50 years have won the affection of countless children and bear enthusiasts all over the world.

In the year 2000, R. John Wright Dolls added Paddington Bear to its collection of beloved characters from classic children's literature. Faithfully Based on illustrations in several of the Paddington books as well as the animated puppet in the famed BBC series, Paddington stands approximately 15" tall. He is fully jointed and constructed of custom-woven alpaca plush with a molded leather nose, glass eyes, and an embroidered mouth. Paddington features felt paw pads on his hands and feet and his fingers are wired to enable him to hold his custom-made leather suitcase.

Paddington is outfitted in an authentically tailored felt duffle coat with a red-lined hood and wooden toggle buttons. A bush hat covers Paddington's black fur ears and around his neck he wears the tag which reads "Please look after this bear. Thank you."

The accompanying suitcase is also beautifully detailed with a plaid cotton interior and a secret compartment which holds a photo of Aunt Lucy and a few Peruvian dollar bills. Included, of course, is a miniature glass jar of marmalade - Paddington's favorite!

The most definitive version of this character ever made, Paddington Bear came enclosed in a deluxe presentation box with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
