| MARTA |
We are proud to present "Marta" - the charming souvenir doll for a ticketed dinner event at the UFDC National convention, "My Favorite Things", which was held from July 18-23, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois.
Based on the enchanting art of Berta Hummel, Marta evokes her iconic images of childhood perfectly. Standing 11 1/2" tall, and made of the finest all-wool felt, Marta introduces a brand new face sculpt with an open/close mouth and delicate hand painted features. She is fully jointed at shoulders, hips and neck and has a sculpural hollow molded felt body and sculptural limbs. Her graceful hands have individually sewn fingers. Her wig of the finest imported mohair features a meticulously hand knotted part and tiny braids tied with felt bows.
Marta is outfitted in a peasant-style costume made entirely of fine custom dyed all-wool felt. The clothing has been artistically airbrushed to create the distinctive patterns and coloration. In one hand Marta holds a clump of handmade felt flowers and on her feet she wears felt stockings and hand cobbled felt clogs with leather soles.
Attendance at the exclusive dinner event titled "Raindrops On Roses" was determined by a lottery system. Each place setting had one of four different colored felt roses made in the R. John Wright studio and embellished with applied crystal 'raindrops'. There were red, cinnamon, pink blush, and yellow roses.
Following a delightful program on the art of Berta Hummel and the famous Hummel figurines, a special auction was held for the "number one" Marta in the edition of 250. The winning bid was $7,000 and all the proceeds went to further the goals of the UFDC organization. At the conclusion of the event, Marta was presented to the lucky attendees. Each doll came beautifully boxed with the accompanying certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration. A companion doll named "Friedrich" was available for separate purchase.
