MARGARET

Margaret

We are proud to present "Margaret" - the lovely souvenir doll for "Storyland", the second R. John Wright Convention which was held from June 2-5, 2010.

Based on the enchanting art of famed American illustrator Jessie Willcox Smith, Margaret evokes her iconic images of childhood perfectly. Standing 10" tall, and made entirely of the finest all-wool felt, Margaret introduces a brand new portrait face with delicate hand painted features. She is fully jointed at shoulders, hips and neck with the RJW ball & socket jointing system with internal wood mechanism. She has a sculpural hollow molded felt body and sculptural limbs and her graceful hands have amazingly tiny individually sewn fingers. Her long braids of the finest imported mohair wrap across the back of her head and are fastened at the sides with silk bows.

Margaret is costumed in a lovely dress made of fine irridescent silk taffeta. The fabric has been precisely cut with thousands of slits and interwoven by hand with silk ribbons at the R. John Wright workshop to create the distinctive pattern. Margaret's period undergarments are made of fine cotton and trimmed with Swiss embroidered lace. Cotton stockings, a dainty batiste apron, and hand-cobbled leather slippers complete her period ensemble.

The final perfect touch is the miniature storybook Margaret holds tenderly to her chest. Designed by R. John Wright Dolls, the book is a replica of "A Child's Book of Old Verses" with full color illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith - including the one which Margaret is based on! Bound in maroon calfskin embellished in gold leaf, this book was published in a private printing of 300 and is a tiny treasure unto itself.

Margaret was presented to each fully-registered guest at the conclusion of the 2010 R. John Wright convention. Each doll came beautifully boxed with the accompanying certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
