Raggedy Ann & Andy - FOREVER FRIENDS

Forever Friends Set

An important new series from R. John Wright Dolls premiered in 2004: THE RAGGEDY ANN™ COLLECTION. This exciting series was based faithfully on the immortal artwork of Raggedy Ann's creator, Johnny Gruelle in his enormously popular series of Raggedy Ann books which began publication in 1918 with Raggedy Ann Stories.

A delightful cabinet-size collection of Raggedy Ann characters was made exclusively for THE TOY SHOPPE of Richmond, Virginia.

The first items in this series, Raggedy Ann & Andy - Forever Friends, measure just 8" small. Made just like their large-size counterparts, both are constructed entirely of custom-made all-wool felt with delicate coloration, imported glass eyes, and wool yarn hair. A rotating joint at the neck, floppy arms, and inset gusset joints at the hips, and knees made for playful poseability.

Raggedy Ann's removable clothing includes cotton pantaloons, a custom-dyed felt dress with tiny individually-applied felt dots, and a cotton apron with a little hankie inside the pocket. A tiny wooden 'candy' heart can be felt just under the fabric of her chest. Raggedy Andy is outfitted in his trademark buttoned felt trousers and matching hat. His plaid shirt is made of pieced felt and includes a black silk tie. As a special touch, in one arm, Andy holds a bouquet of tiny felt "Gruelle-style" flowers.

The Camel with the Wrinkled Knees is also faithfully based on the original Gruelle images. Standing just 6 1/2 inches tall, he is fully constructed of the finest all-wool felt with delicate airbrushed shading. Camel is jointed at the neck for increased expressiveness. He has a unique sculptural character face with hand painted features and leather covered shoe-button eyes. Camel is completely authentic from his double humps to his wrinkled knees and handstitched details. Just as in the illustrations, he wears a red bridle made of leather with felt covered white buttons.

The final piece in the RJW Raggedy Ann collection was the delightful Little Brown Bear. This whimsical character first appeared in the book of the same name published in 1920. Faithfully based on the original Gruelle images, The Little Brown Bear stands approximately 8" tall and is made of the finest custom mohair plush. This charming little bear is fully jointed and has hand embroidered features and glass eyes. His costume consists of felt trousers which button at the waist and a shirt with hand appliqued felt polka dots. A hat sewn of pieced felt and hand cobbled leather shoes with felt spats complete his colorful storybook outfit.

Despite their small size, all the pieces in the Forever Friends series are true in every detail to the original Gruelle illustrations. Each came beautifully packaged in a deluxe presentation box with authentic Johnny Gruelle imagery on the lid. Included are the signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
