Christmas Tree Fairy

The little Christmas Tree was born
And dwelt in open air;
It did not guess how bright a dress
Some day its boughs would wear;
Brown cones were all, it thought, a tall
And grown-up Fir would bear.

O little Fir! Your forest home
Is far and far away;
And here indoors these boughs of yours
With colored balls are gay,
With candle-light, and tinsel bright,
For this is Christmas Day!

A dolly-fairy stands on top,
Till children sleep; then she
(A live one now!) from bough to bough
Goes gliding silently.
O magic sight, this joyous night!
O laden, sparkling tree!

The R. John Wright Flower Fairies made their debut at a special ticketed dinner event held during the first R. John Wright convention in 2009. This important series broke new ground both artistically and technically and marked a major departure in the construction of R. John Wright dolls. In order to closely evoke the various poses of the Flower Fairy characters as depicted in the original Cicely Mary Barker illustrations, a completely new jointing system was devised. Each fairy has a hollow sculptural torso with an internal wood mechanism to connect the limbs and head. The ball & socket joints provided a far greater degree of movement then the former rotating disc method.

In addition to the jointing innovations, the scale of the fairies called for new limb molds in varied and expressive poses and incredibly tiny individually sewn and turned fingers. Techniques were also devised to produce Cicely Barker's botanically-exact flowers, leaves, and berries, in felt and fabric.

From FLOWER FAIRIES OF THE WINTER - The Christmas Tree Fairy is constructed of the finest all wool felt and measures 11 1/2" tall. Her facial features are delicately hand painted and she has a hand-knotted wig of the finest imported mohair. Her lovely fairy wings are sewn of fine silk organza and delicately hand colored.

The Christmas Tree Fairy is costumed in a delicate white dress of fine cotton organdy, tulle, and French lace embellished with silk ribbon. She comes wearing her star headband of silk charmeuse and holding her magic wand.

The Christmas Tree Fairy was produced in an edition of 250 pieces worldwide. Each came enclosed in an elegant RJW Flower Fairy presentation box with the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
